Islam

Is Noseall on holiday? He's been quiet just recently.
Will be (Chamonix) next Thursday. Just bored with batting around the same tired story.

There are a lot of scary bad Muslim extremists about - agreed.

They are very scary bad because they are not afraid to die.

Not all muslims are bad, some cook great curry.

Certain posters will always post lop-sided stories that need a bit of honesty/parity injecting into them.

Handypants has been on ignore (and is still) since Feb 10th, hence zero response to anything Handshandy.

That was a very interesting article.

I may start off everyone again but it is just another article; it might be true; it might not.

How do we know?

Please explain to me because I really don't understand how anyone could actually believe in the nonsense that is religion.
I was forced to go to Sunday school as a child and, whilst the principles of Christianity (today) are quite good, I soon worked out that the fundamentals were fantasy.

I can understand that if you were that way inclined you can use whatever religion you want to justify your warped objectives or merely to control the population as, indeed, did the kings of the past.
Other than accident of birth, the way to become king was to kill the incumbent.

What I cannot accept is that 'ordinary' people decide - through personal choice - to go around killing other people simply because a doctrine states that you should.

Therefore the status quo continues with all the misery.

Because they are less well-educated, have worse life prospects / less or nothing to lose, because stable, democratic governance is absent?

On a brighter note, the rapid pace of change in today's world might offer some hope of a peaceful resolution.
I posted before that it took us a century (from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution) to become the most powerful nation on Earth. Some people reckon places like Brazil and India will do it in twenty.
Perhaps the people of the world will overtake literal Islam, of their own accord.

Interesting-education is key, I agree , coupled with prosperity. Once you are comfortable, there's less need for an imaginary friend to help out!

Imagine being told, from an age where you first understood langauge, that something existed and that this was told to you by the most trusted and closest people to you.

Now imagine that everyone you meet, yes everyone, feels the same way and tells you the same thing.

Now imagine that you have no access to newspapers, the tele or the internet.

Now imagine that throughout your entire life.

I still believe in Santa though many have told me it isn't true.

I was forced to go to Sunday school as a child and, whilst the principles of Christianity (today) are quite good, I soon worked out that the fundamentals were fantasy.
Yes, very good and lucky you. It's just a shame that people like you haven't the brains to realise how these people live and in what conditions they exist.

These people have access to TV, Internet, education benefits housing and a comfortable life style etc but still...

Choudary on a ego trip? What would he be, if he wasn't doing what he does? I bet he revels in the notoriety first and foremost, rather than truly believing in the cause.

He's smiling now, but give him enough rope...

Perhaps that's why the government are allowing him and his mates the freedom to do this sort of thing.

With respect, I'm not going to read nor listen to links for the time being. The thread was created with the question of whether universal and unilateral peace could ever, theoretically, be achieved amongst our species if there was an agreed belief/religious structure.

Please try to refrain from the usual, and well documented  , tired old arguments.

Some people reckon places like Brazil .

Forget Brazil. Some parts like the South where the Europeans settled aren't too bad, but the rest is the wild west. Street lynchings are very commonplace and violent crime is off the scale. Their economy may have had a lift recently, but much of it is lawless.

The flip-flop wearing Da Silvas sworn aim in life is to wipe each other off the face of the earth as quickly as possible. Corruption is rife, the currency is on the slide and the economy is starting to suffer.
