I have no experience of such things because I go to work and can afford a car and don't want to look silly.

Seriously, though, is it just me or are they a con?

Found this picture right away - so, how can they do any good if you are travelling toward the ground at a reasonable speed?

Having come off my bike a couple of years ago (black ice!), I was mightily glad to have my bike helmet on as it helped avoid clunking my unprotected bonce on the tarmac.

Ok, fair enough.

It's just that they always look as if they would just be pushed out of the way.

What about face first as I did (many moons ago) before such things were invented?

The way I see it is that owt is better than nowt. When coming off a bike, you have enough to contend with, specifically getting your legs wrapped round the frame. So anything that helps prevent further damage is worth a few quid.

its bad enough wearing a motorcycle helmet on a hot day, wearing one while cycling, you would not last long.

theres to many cars on the road, and to many bad drivers,i believe you should first pass a motorcycle test before you get in a car, it will make you a better driver.

And pass a driving test before you get on a bike.

As one of those nasty drivers I would say the most important thing when riding a bike is to get some lights. I am always shocked by the amount of early morning workers I encounter, riding to work in the winter with no lights on.

Most of the motorcyclists I see on my commute to work , could do with actually reading the Highway Code. In fact I think some of them must have been on an away day when God handed out brains.

I once saw a cyclist polishing his helmet in the bushes.

and some car drivers need prayer to get there eyesight back

Motorcyclists! Makes me laugh how they have their full beams on to 'be safe'. That's as they are doing 95mph on the motorway and weaving in and out of traffic at 70mph on dual carriageways of course.
