Hi guys, thanks for reading this.

I have a question relating to running a plug socket from a light fitting.
Basically I have purchased some under-counter LED lighting and they come with a 12v 6a 3pin plug (adapter). I have nowhere to plug it in and I can't really (easily) get to a mains socket to run a spur off. Ideally I would like to run a fused spur from a nearby ceiling light switch but I can't do this because the LED lights need to be plugged in with a 3 pin plug.

Can I just run a single socket from the ceiling switch and plug the LED lights in or would this not be possible?

Thank you for your time

Matt

You know what it's for, anyone in the future buying this property won't. They could plug in a kettle to make a cup of tea if they wished.

5 amp lighting socket maybe but you've stated 6amp so not even that method.

I had thought of that, thanks. But I'm talking about the possibility of doing it? I would of course remove it if/when we sell the house.

I was enquiring more of the practical barriers rather than the moral ones :) thanks again.

Ceiling switch? Is that a pull cord one? What sort of room are you talking about?

Hi mate, thanks for your reply.

Basically the LED lights would be in the kitchen and the nearest power source to it would be just through the wall (about 2 feet away) to the pull cord ceiling switch in the next room (bathroom).

Thanks.

As Taylor asked, what do you mean by "ceiling switch"?
You probably won't have a neutral at a switch.

@30Sixteen
Please tell us what wires are in the ceiling switch. I mean, what coloured wires go to which connections on the switch.
Or post a photo.

Hi, I intend tondo just that. But I'll have to wait til morning now. Thank you for your reply. I'll post it in the morning.

Thanks again.
