Storge Heaters replaced with plug sockets :)

Hi, if you mean you want to use the wiring for additional sockets which are on 24/7 you will have to get your electrican to conect the consumer unit marked storage heaters to the 'normal' supply. This is not some thing a diy'er can legally do.

Regards,

DS

P.S. Your electrican will advise you that you should take the opertunity to consolidate all your ciruits into one new consumer unit, it would be a ideal time to do that.

Tell your electricity supplier (the one that sends your bills) that you no longer want the Economy 7 (or whatever).

When they come to remove the teleswitch, ask the nice man to connect your heater CU to the normal supply.

Does he not mean he wants to replace the storage heaters for sockets what would only be energised during the off peak periods?

I would't think so. What would be the point of that?

If he did he wouldn't have to do anything to anything in the picture.

 I took it as the storage heaters are hard wired atm and he wanted to be able to plug and unplug them from the proposed sockets. Your right though EFLI, would not be very useful unless you have a high load at night time other than the storage heaters.

Arguably there is a need for a new CU anyway to provide RCD protection to the new sockets. OK, I know there are other ways, like a stand alone RCD in the feed to the (former) night storage fuseboard but that's a rather messy way to do it.
