I've just bought a 12ft diameter outdoor swimming pool.
its a bit like this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BestWay-S...5c359f&pid=100010&rk=1&rkt=17&sd=191724178979

tbh, I hadn't taken the electrics into consideration.

I believe I need an outdoor extension for a start. I do not have an existing outdoor electrical source, so if I get something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Masterplu...900184?hash=item58b979f758:g:AIwAAOSwuMFUdzvV
will I be able to chop the end off this cable where the plug is and reconnect it using electrical connectors and electrical tape, and then plug it in to a normal socket inside the house?

No. If you read the instruction booklet you will probably see that it states you must not use an extension lead.
If you are using a heater as well as a filter pump then it is a definite no no!
It states that it should be wired in and protected by 30ma RCD

thanks conny, so will i need a qualified electrician for this?
Or is there anyway a novice can DIY this?

Yes, you certainly will need an electrician. It is not a DIY job. I would also advise if you haven't got a heater for your pool you should get one. Water at 24C is quite chilly unless you are a seasoned swimmer. For splashing around, especially with young children, I would recommend getting the water to 28-30C from a decent heater. For this you will need a separate supply from the main CU which should only be installed by a qualified electrician.

Ok. I'll get a sparky. And yeah I'll look into a heater too (I was hoping that a solar cover would be enough?)
The cost is starting to mount up though

Water at 24°C is almost never going to happen in this country without a heater.

Quite right BAS. Sorry if I misled anyone. Tha temperature of just the water without heat was around 16-17C The first heater I bought said it would raise the temperature to 30C but after 4 days it had only reached 22C
We then fitted a solar cover and it rose to 24C after another 2 days, so we decided to try it. Unless we were swimming continuously it was flippin' cold!!!!!

So we invested in a ECO Heat Pump.

Works by drawing the heat out of the air, even on cold days, and operates like a fridge in reverse. Upper temperature can reach up to 40C but we have thermostat set at 36C It is quite warm when you get in but due to cold spots after stirring it up by swimming it drops to around 30C
I should add our pool is 16' x 12' x 4' We have a solar cover to reduce evaporation and retain the heat and it is under a large heavy duty marquee. This enables us to use it whenever we want to and the heat pump has reduced the electric costs by almost 2/3 of the standard electric heater.
