Hey guys

I am planning on investing into my first multi-tester. I am thinking of getting a Kewtech KT65 MFT, but I would like to consider other options before finalising. Any other "better" brands out there?

Kewtech is fine. Used to be (or they bought) Robin - very good. Kewtech leads are the best.

I like Fluke but that's just personal (and you get a box to sit on :)).

Search around for the best price. It varies enormously.

Thanks - I like the fluke too, but they are too expensive. The Kewtech is within reach - the cheapest I can get new is aroun £675, which is quite an eye-watering buy but it must be done.

Me & RF use Metrel Alphatek. They're not bad & a decent price too.

Does it have to be new?

If you buy a used one, throw the leads away and get a decent set of new ones, as they are what wears out before anything else.

Are you in business, or are you learning?

If it will suit today's needs, a good tester that's out of calibration, especially if it's a superseded model, can be a tremendous bargain.

And a good one (here meaning good quality make, not just an example in good condition) that has been looked after (you can usually tell), with a genuine reason for being sold, is pretty low risk.

£675 for a new Kewtech, or quite a bit less for a tidy s/h Fluke and calibration?

I bought my Megger 1552 about 3 or 4 years ago for about £300. It was out of calibration but I got 2 plug in leads (one brand new), three fused switched probes, a boatload of leads and a brand new lockout/tagout kit.

I was chuffed. Had it calibrated last month. All good, bar one reading which was a marginal pass. 'Calibration' is the wrong word IMO
