Hi, first post here.

We had our kitchen done a couple of years ago and installed some wall cabinets with recessed LED spots. Now they're flickering and going dim one by one, and I can't work out how to change the units. I've tried asking the original installer but he's gone quiet on me.

Any advice? They seem to be directly wired in and therefore not easy to replace, but, really....? Surely these spotlights are designed so that you change the bulbs when they go.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The parts of the fitting that produce light are not replaceable.

You would need to change the whole unit. But are you sure the fault does not lie with the driver?

It could be the driver, i haven't checked it out. Is it common for them to fail? I'll admit I did think it was odd that they were all giving up in a line, i.e. the end unit first, then second from the end etc.

Do you think I should try replacing that first?

Thanks!

Ps - changing the whole lighting unit means taking the entire cabinet off the wall and taking it apart, as far as I can tell... Hopefully it is the driver!

Soldering Iron + Solder + Replacement LED's , assuming the driver is still good that is and you are confident with detailed electronics work. Make sure you don't end up Moulton solder dripping on you!

BAS, I was refereeing to one soldering at a awkward angle while your face is directly below the thing your soldering.

Ok thanks all for the advice. As a complete novice who's never soldered anything I'll probably get someone that knows what they're doing to replace the lights.

Is it more likely to be the driver though? I mean, sometimes two of the lights are dim, sometimes one, then sometimes none are dim but one is flashing.... Does that sound like a knackered driver? Or are those the symptoms of a dying LED?

BAS, have you been posting images in a 'different way' recently? When you've done so in recent times, all I see is an icon but, strangely, when I click on "Quote", the full image appears in the reply box!

Kind Regards, John

1) No - I have not changed anything about how I post them.

2) I did not realise that it was only me: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/images-not-showing.485505/

3) If you leave them in your quote, do they show up?

Their frames are brazed - you can't use them as a source of solder.

Testing quote of non-showing images (see my previous post)

Edit - that's exactly what I saw at the start - only in the reply box do I actually see the images! What do you see in the above quote?
