Fireworks!

What amuses me is that what amounts to "explosives" albeit a very, very low grade Explosive is available to anyone?

These things are if used incorrectly can be and are Dangerous

Where am I coming from? I as a hobby shoot a target rifle, the constraints on Firearms, and ammunition as opposed to "Fireworks" is best described as Chalk and Cheese.

OK the chemicals used in Fireworks are no where as [shall I call it Volatile] as the propellants in Cartridges, never the less given my background in Shooting, I find it astounding that Joe Public can access what in effect are low grade Explosives, all without licenses and security checks?

Ken

Dunno, how far do you want to go? Knives and guns already banned, what about forks? The vast majority of people that use fireworks, do so responsibly, the vast majority of people that carry a weapon do so for protection. And anyway, I thought fireworks were a good way of civilising little tearaways, once they've set fire to someones shed or had a mates eye out, they usually become a little wiser, and a little more docile.

Whats a lost Eye ?

As for Arson?

That little tearaway becomes a Prison Statistic, or how about even worse Tearaway does no more than 10 hours of Community service??

My point was these low level [Explosive] devices cause havoc what with noise pollution, local annoyances, Et-All and a very simple danger to the Public at large.

My opinion is that Fireworks should be banned for general sale to the public. Fireworks should be a controlled event where a Permit to hold the event has to be obtained.

You mention Gun / Firearms Control, guns are not banned, they are subject to severe constraints, quite correctly too.

Remember a load of Fireworks contain more explosive force than your average ,22 Rimfire bullet ?

Ken

Maybe we should ban the sale of an explosive liquid that has the capability of propelling a ton plus of metal at speeds well in excess of 100 MPH ?

Loads of fireworks are capable of exceeding such velocities and in a fraction of the time

My next door neighbour's dog hates fireworks. Goes absolutely ballistic. They have to take it to the vets and get some sort of sedative for it at this time of year,. Our dog will bark when it here's one or two, but quickly calms down and usually falls off to sleep again.

It's people's responsibilty to be responsible it's not the role of government, unless you want to live in a totalitarian country, it's not worth the price. Don't agree with you at all.

It's not on punishing the majority because of the actions of a few idiots.

Not sure why you bring up guns as that has nothing to do with fireworks. What you are doing is creating a strawman argument and then arguing against it. I personally can't stand the things but still support the right of people who choose to buy them.

Also Ken, you must have been young once, you know what kids get up to, that's where good parenting comes in, to limit the damage a stupid child might do, again not the role of government.
