my dogs are like that every evening when I come home from work.
They do miss you when your not there and show happiness at your return, not just for the belly rubs.

The MRs barely looks up from her knitting...
 
To find out whether your dog or your Mrs really loves you, lock them both in your car boot for and hour, and see which one is pleased to see you when you let them out. :cautious:
