Replacing existing pond pump.

Hi,

I have bought a new pond pump as our old one died. However in the instructions it mentions that outdoor work needs to comply with Part P building regulations.

Therefore would I need to inform my LA building control that I'm replacing my pump or not. The power supply is already insitu and not requiring any work and so it's a case of opening the junction box and connecting the pump whilst leaving the power supply as it is.

If you are England, it would certainly not be 'notifiable' work - so no-one has to be informed..

In Wales, it might well be notifiable, even though it's only a replacing job.

All electrical work in dwellings needs to comply. Complying with Part P means this:

and that is all.

Notification is a separate thing - a few types of work needs to be notified to building control, typically by paying a substantial fee or using someone who belongs to one of the many schemes.
Most electrical work does not require notification, and most of what does is not notified even when it should be.

Many years ago, I attended (in UK) a wedding of a (somewhat 'unconventional', particularly for those days) colleague, virtually the entire 3-4 hours of which were just like that (including preachers and choirs imported from US). It was followed by an equally lengthy 'reception', frequently punctuated by (noisy and/or 'with gesticulations') prayers and/or hymns, which was "free from" alcohol, meat, tea, coffee (maybe even chocolate) and goodness knows what else!

I certainly hope not!

I recently replaced our pond pump, as my wife chopped through the mains cable whilst gardening . I didn't want to mess about trying to repair the cable, especially when it would be unprotected from the elements. I just plugged the new one into the outdoor power socket.
