European army

Not as much difference as you might think.

As a defence force the more countries involved with a similar outlook, the less chance of problems, and, or erm, wars.

With just usa as our ally we are just a defence outpost, told to jump and follow orders. Nothing more! Russia, and, or any other country would have to get past us to get to the Usa east. I prefer more of a say in our defence.

Yes but it isn't controlled by one centralised government, each member has its own freedom to control it's own army.

The two are not the same.

And your evidence for that is what exactly?

Where did I state it as fact?

If you think about it, if the EU have an army, then what happens when there is a conflict -who would take charge? NATO and the EU army take orders?

Or would there be 2 separate forces involved?

Would the EU want to spend anything like the amount the Americans do on defence -most European countries dont even reach near the 2% as per NATO.

Your pal Yafo seems to think they're the same thing so why would you need to be a part of both.
pal?

But anyway, the UK has many individual military agreements including with the US, Ireland, Germany, France who are inside/ouside of NATO/The EU....

Why would we need to be a part of all those?

Other countries nominally in NATO also get protection from both NATO and non-NATO countries....

Why would they need to be a part of both?

The answer is in the term 'mutual agreement' btw...Not exclusive!

I asked for the evidence you have that made you come to your conclusion that (as you stated) 'it seem so to me'....

Do tell us where I said you stated it as fact...

As usual you make stuff up and put words in other people's mouths when asked a simple question that you appear unwilling to answer ;)

Yet you can't resist the opportunity to try and score points.

If the EU get their way it will be a great excuse for Germany to rearm as they love that sort of thing.
The EU can't be trusted to have an army of any consequence as it will be led by the Germans and everyone knows what that will lead to.

You think we control our forces currently?

We do exactly as we are told, that is before we get even closer to the usa. Careful what you wish for!

The 2% figure can be very misleading.

A lot of that is in buying and maintaining equipment, and armament from...., yes you have guessed it.

Only if we are not part of the deciding table.

Similar to brexit, we walk away from the table ?

And do you really think the Germans are looking to rearm and fight? Do you not understand their politics and culture? The idea of a combined army is for peace, and strength, not division.

I would prefer we could afford our own military, without needing to join others, but have you seen our defence strengths lately?

Believe it or not, I am not known to or by anybody on here.

Similar points of view and outlook is all. We don't agree on everything by a long shot, but we certainly object to similar things

UK rank 7th in the world on spending. So kinda still up there.
I can't see France wanting to fill US boots as the EU army.
Even under NATO/UN its rare that more than 3 or 4 will work together on a conflict. Its usually UK, US and France doing the heavy lifting.
Russia's military spend isn't sustainable against its economy, but it has big goals on restoring the USSR
US military budget is huge - if the whole of the EU + UK and a few around the edges went to war with the US, based on financial spend we'd lose.

I wonder how much is left after you knock off the billions we pay the US for our underwater white elephant, a handful of tridents.

Have we got any planes yet that work on our new aircraft carrier?

It's not a case of 'point scoring', it's merely pointing out ignorance and evasive behaviour...

Isn't it amazing that when asking simple questions of simple people, the response is usually a blank one...

A non response you are of course very adept at (y)
