We are currently doing a theming project. Its a commercial application not domestic and we have had to build up rooms that are meant to look like an old prison.

The walls are made from cls studwork and fireproof plasterboard. We need to do a cement render over to make the entire room(s) look like concrete.

My question is what preperation is needes to help the render stick to the plasterboard? Ive read pva then pva with sand. We thought use a tile adhesive as a scratch coat then render over that. Or using a mesh membrane / chicken wire or a combination of the tile adhesive or cement with the mesh.

Issues of cracking dont matter and will actually add to the effect we are looking to create we just need to ensure that it adheres and doesnt fall off.

Any ideas?

staple chicken wire to the plasterboards
then render with a 4:1 coat of sand an cement.
when the coat begins to firm up then rub it up with a wood or plastic float.
then leave it alone.
