You're not a "road tax" kind of guy are you?
Road Tax was abolished in the mid 1930's. The pot of tax, some of which is used for road maintenance, comes from all kinds of different taxes, which cyclists contribute to.
Vehicle taxation is based on emissions - how much does a human emit compared to a motorised vehicle?

I don’t believe vehicle tax is truly based on emissions. If I have a gas guzzling 4x4 I pay more ‘vehicle tax’ than my neighbour in his BMW 320D. He does 45,000 miles per year and I do 1,500. Who produces more emissions?

depends on how much they fart.

Or how much ****e they speak!!

Ah well, I'll be ok, drive less than 2k per year, not been abroad for over a year, never been on a cruise, don't have a coal fire or log burner. Ain't I the saint.

well dunno about a saint . but your carbon foot print is small :)

It is reckoned that the 7 largest cruise liners if they were a country would rank some thing like 7 in the polluting list . Massive amount of pollution they run on cheap bunker fuel

Crusies are becoming ever more popular ;) Some dck down my way statred lecturing me on all this green caper he flys abroad 6 times a year , him and his missis have a car each

a masive wet room with a dust bin size rain shower head .

blokes a w*****r and does f all of consequence for the enviroment . Unlike me

Roads and cars don't commit offences; people do. The problems on the roads are due to drivers disobeying the law and not being punished for it. Punishment is what's needed, not severe restrictions that affect everybody. Fines, bans, imprisonment, floggings, thumbscrews etc etc. It works for drink drivers - the only bad drivers effectively punished.

If you want to make roads safer make the cars more dangerous to drive

no seal belts and a massive spike sticking out the center of the steering wheel ??

Yeah, I'm sure the passengers would be happy with that

This is where the data is / will be coming from.
Note the red listed items, Ah, ha phasing out gas boilers from new builds is mooted - 'They' will just follow this list in a selective manner.

Emission stuff.jpg

Aircraft not mentioned - who to blame for the emissions especially on International flights ???
Enjoy the future,

Speed limits haven't been set on safety grounds since they change the guidance in 2001. Speed limits used to be set according to the 85th percentile of vehicle speed. i.e. assume the majority drive safely, which is backed up by casualty stats. Its now set based on the 50th percentile and other environmental considerartions.

When I used to prep people for their advanced riding tests, you'd get a real flavour of how rigidly sticking to speed limits affects safety. Sometimes you can turn a small error in to a big one by not being able to accelerate out of danger.
