Hi all,

So bathroom has been finished and building control came out today and want a Part P certificate. Seems fair but this document implies we don’t need one.

There is no new circuit.
There is no electrics in zone a.
There are spotlights on existing lighting circuit accessible from loft.
There is an electric mirror from an FCU accessible from bedroom.
There is no electric shower but is an aquaLisa visage digital mixer accessible from bathroom.

This is all protected by an MCB in the fuse box.

Am I right in assuming of nothing in zone a, no part p Needed?

I'm assuming you did the wiring yourself so you can't just ask the spark to notify the work?
Your Aqualisa controller- where is it? If (as would seem sensible) it is in the shower cubicle then a particularly pedantic BCO could call it 'installation in a special location'. If this is the case then you'll need the docs that came with the thing with special attention to the power supply- it needs to be a proper SELV supply to ensure your safety. You may still come unstuck unless you are a qualified electrician (because of the rider on the front of the installation manual)

Sorry, the situation continues.

Extractor fan is accessible from wiring in loft.
The pump is accessible from bedroom next door.

I guess the question is what defines a circuit really!

Technically they have to satisfy themselves that the work complies with part p or in real terms bs7671. Whether that's notifiable or not, it still must comply. If it's not notifiable in its own right, it's debatable whether the onus is on you to certify it as compliant or the bco to satisfy themselves at their own expense.
You can always write your own certificate stating that to your knowledge it complies. You could sign it in crayon for the added touch;)

With respect but I don't see how that can work , isn't the point they need to be satisfied that electrical work is carried out by a competent person, any householder can't just certify their own diy electrical work surely :!:

Not sure, I'm not going to read part p at this time of night but i thought work could comply with bs7671 and part p based on the resulting work itself rather than the person who did it.
It's a bit of a weird subtle point even if it is true ill admit

What, exactly, did Building Control say about the electrical elements of the job and what did you tell them you'd done? May be too late now but the correct answer to every question was 'that was there already, removed the appliance while tiling/whatever was done & then re-instated it with no alterations to wiring'.

I still reckon you are on thin ice with your Aqualisa thing- it is in a special location so its installation may very well be notifiable even if it does have a proper SELV supply. The rest of it you should be able to blag assuming the installation shows evidence of competence, cabling is all protected by RCDs and (where applicable) is in safe zones.

Say good night, Gracie
Think I missed some sarcasm there, but Christ, how far are you going back ,wasn't that George Burns in the 1950's :?:
ps I wish people on this forum would leave the sarcasm to woody, it gets confusing if everybody is at it :!:
