Remind me, what was your response to the suggestion of making the illegal drugs trade unprofitable, by selling quality-controlled drugs through licenced premises, with legal controls and taxes?

just like we do with alcohol?

What sort of legal controls would there be with substances like crack cocaine and heroin.
Would there be health warnings on tins of glue, what would be the age limit for glue sniffers.
Would the public be allowed to grow cannabis on their allotments.
Exactly what drugs would the public be allowed to misuse and abuse.

At what age?
Kids get involved in gang culture from around 12-13 years old. By the time they are 18 they are going to already be out their dealing, and doing everything to stay off the radar of the police and military.

So the thing that is wrong with that is that it will simply take the wrong people out of society.

Next idea. come on, maybe somebody will say more youth services, better education, community policing, rehabilitation ...

One interesting point made on R4 the other week is the relationship between school exclusion and involvement in gangs - schools need to be working much closer with the police, and they need to avoid excluding children at all costs. More resources, meaning more money, needed to help these kids in the one place that they are still open to getting help - in school. Most are from broken homes (although not all) so you can't rely on parents to put them on the straight and narrow.

Until we have a very strong instant deterrent that sends the message out " Get caught carry a knife out in public in public fast tracked severe custodial sentence with hard labour, no cushy hotel life." The problem won't be solved........this idiot that randomly stabbed a woman in the back in the street, uploaded his proud deed and the woman could be heard screaming in the background ...life is appropriate.

The forgoing and numerous examples including "bagging" which involves stabbing in the anus so the victim has to wear a colostomy bag for life shows the complete sociopathic mindset of knifers.

No pussyfooting about justice should be swift and uncompromising so the message gets clearly accross. Even chaingangs is a rather lenient sentence.

It seems now that the victims can be older normal citizens that are victims rather than opposing gang members.

A 14 year old with a knife is just as dangerous as someone older.

A word of warning these days don't think a crowd of rowdy young teeagers is a group you can tell off with impunity you could quite easily come before a knifer.
