Extractor fan for bathroom.

Educate them in that case. I was never allowed to do that when I was a kid.
This is not an issue - a typical fan left on for 3 hours continuously will cost about 1p in electricity.
Far less for the average trip to the bathroom.
Will have to look how mine is wired, it’s a timer one on a pull switch but doesn’t run on after the switch is turned off. There an isolator next to it in the loft.

To start with mine looks like it’s leaking a bit.
The wires in the unit have a jumper between 2 of the points. The isolator has 3 wires.
