Hi!

Instead of posting multiple threads, I thought it might be better to create a single thread with all the progress.

I bought a house built on the 60's, location is good but is quite dated and it needs some improvements before moving in.

Internal walls are paramount partitions, I am taking them down, removing the old floorboards, to install underfloor heating and new metal stud partitions with noise insulation between rooms (and more sockets).

One of the challenges so far is to get rid of the rubble. So far I have taken all the wood to the local tip, couple of skips for concrete, some old furniture sold for cheap on Facebook, but the plasterboard is challenging: almost no one takes plasterboard in skips! Have two ton-bags sitting on the driveway (under a "carport") right now.

Thanks, also found that article. Probably the cheapest option would be buying/borrowing/renting a trailer and take it to the local tip, at least in Reading they charge "by volume", £3 for 25 L.

It sounds like you aren't going to be living in the house while the works are going on with the 'distruction' you have described... thats the biggest battle you haven't got to deal with - nice one! No worrying about cleaning up before bed or getting functioning toilets and baths to keep the other half happy. Or hearing the phrase 'is that all youve done?' when they come in.

Take your time with things and do plenty of research! Just be mindful you don't spend over the ceiling price of your property as you may not get it back if you come to sell (purchase price plus £££ spent on the refurb).

As for the plasterboard, I cannot beleive you're charged by the local tip for disposal. We must be spoilt in East Yorkshire as i've took tons of it over the years for free.

Good luck, but im sure you'll be fine. Keep th updates and PICTURES cominig.

Our local skip company does plasterboard bags.

Since the charges came in at the dumps, so much of this must be going into general waste bins!

It’s free to dump in Rochdale too, it just needs to go in its own seperate skip.

Good luck with the renovation and don’t forget the pictures :)

These are two of the rooms after removing wallpaper, the render on the chimney stack and one of the partitions.

Sorry for the vertical video.

Any idea what could be that pipe on the side of the chimney stack?

What do you think is the best course of action to recess this beam on the ceiling void? I am waiting on the structural engineer to visit the house and give me the right steel specs.
