Covid-19 discussion

Knock on effect of the virus - people not taking children (and other ages) to hospital, despite being in a bad way for fear of catching the virus and/or NHS helpline or ambulances too busy.

It's especially sad as due to the current situation somebody really needing AE would get rapid attention as there would be less distraction from people who shouldn't be there. Ambulances are bound to be busy though and I wonder what happens if some one simply takes some one there.

When we rocked up at a & e on Monday (aforementioned broken arm), the first thing reception asked was had we been to my lad's gp first.

Iirc, the same thing was asked last year, when he was cobbled at school, and his ankle was the size of a balloon.

Doesn't seem a sensible way of operating a & e, going to your gp first (especially when it's a potential or likely break).

That's the problem - potentially a break. They get a lot of potential all sorts that aren't so if possible people should see a GP first. Also a lot of things that a GP can deal with. They are not there to deal with a lot of things that people actually turn up with. I know it's hard as have had he same problem myself. Son, serious problem with a foot for 2 days so sent him. The check was can you stand on your toes. He could so no broken bones and sent away. A GP may have checked some other way. I was kept in AE for 4hrs+ once for monitoring. Sitting there watching what went on. No idea why, probably the look of my face a Doc came over and said yes - you do need to be here. lot don't. I'd say over 1/2 the people who came in there. I'd had an allergic reaction. ;) Thank heavens it wasn't cashew nuts but some medication I had been prescribed.

Its a real problem -people cant get GP appointments so they rock up to AE where they clog up the system stopping real emergencies like your sons from being seen quickly

A & E visits to hospitals have dropped dramatically during this flu caper

AFAIK new Zealand have only had 2 deaths?

3 people that I am aware of? In the CC
Are now ill with this flu virus

Currently GP should have closed their doors but still taking video and phone consultations. For patients that need to be seen either they are called in, referred to a hot site/clinic or the GP visits. They dont have enough ppe equipment so its the only way to ration them by reducing patient contact.

They are short of gowns, visors, masks, aprons etc.

About 25-30 healthcare staff have died.

Yep absolutely not acceptable, i have a few friends retraining at the moment to become testers. I know they are very apprehensive about it, i have given them a selection of my masks as it seems they are much better than what they've been issued :(

When the dust settles there's going to be a massive wave of litigation for staff lost here if the NHS are found to be negligent. Legal parasites licking their lips already.

And i don't see the dust settling anytime this year to anyone thinking lockdown is ending soon.

the lockdown in Wuhan was 76 days, that takes us to 2nd week of June.

my guess is easing lockdown is only really possible with antibody testing and an immunity passport.
I think Wuhan have used a phone app too

In Wuhan during the lockdown they only allowed people out of houses for very limited periods and they did temperature reading tests on them before they were allowed home.
but then in a one party state you can force people to do what you want.

Also the number of infections and deaths in Wuhan were smaller than the number we have here. My guess is that we should expect it to be at least as long here as it was there.

Absolutely and how many boxes do we tick in that lot. Fck all. How many did it take originally to get us past a 1000 deaths a day.
Easing lockdown when we already have an infinite amount of live cases still moving around ready to reinfect will cause a spike way beyond what we have witnessed already until we reach herd immunity.
