The unions have been saying for weeks they shouldn't go back to work until after the summer holidays, at the end of the summer holidays I would imagine that position will shift to 'until a vaccine is produced'. What was the reaction when it was hinted they might want to forgo some of the summer holidays to facilitate a return to work?

My business is geared to training of school age students and I wasn’t planning to go back until mid September at the earliest. This extended furlough scheme's a winner as far as I’m concerned - I don’t normally earn a bean from mid July to mid September. (y)

To be fair, getting the teachers back to work was never going to be easy, regardless of class size.

No doubt filly is referring to the fact that everybody (except teachers) is told to maintain social distancing and not to meet more than one person at a time, and that person should be outdoors.

I expect filly likes to spend all day in a room with dozens of people from different households, all running around and touching things.

Especially if none of them have been tested, and go home every day to a house where the adults have been out all day.

What happens if a child fights, falls over & gets hurt, wants to give the teacher a hug? These are small children, you cannot reason easily with them, get them to social distance etc. There is no point in sending them back to school other than the teachers behave as a babysitter so the parents can go back to work imo.

Disturbing you find the government struggling to cope with an unpresedented pandemic funny...Would like to have just one day of all you armchair experts running the country and not having the foggiest idea.
To be fair, durhamplumber, and going back to my little story of being lost somewhere in Ireland, how long are backseat drivers expected to put up with incompetent driving before voicing their concerns?
It doesn't matter if we/they're not experts in our/their fields, we all have an innate sense of when something is going seriously wrong. Sometimes those fears can be resolved by good leadership and honesty about the situation. That is not happening in this mess we now find ourselves in.
The Tory party morphed into the Brexit party, that was their central policy. They've seriously messed up a different crisis.

The govt is in a no win position where whatever they do,huge sections of the population will disagree...Pity all you expert virologist/economic/social policy/pandemic prediction experts are not in the cabinet.
Are there any in the cabinet?
I thought the overriding qualification was to support Brexit.

They are all on here apparently.(The experts)
As you imply, there are no such (as per your list) experts in the cabinet.
Does that mean we are all just as qualified to assess the situation and make decisions, except that we did not all support Brexit.
So, only Brexit supporters are equally qualified as the cabinet members?
