Can you solder a chip pan basket?

the handle has fallen off the basket in our deep fat fryer. Can I solder it back on or will the solder melt in the hot oil?

The melting point of solder is 180°C and chip pan oil gets heated to a similar temperature so you would need to try it.
Having said that, I don't think solder would be strong enough to support the weight of a basket full of chips.

Probably won't be successful, you could probably get a replacement for not a lot.
 
It may have been spot welded initially, but you could get away with brazing it.....solder isn’t strong enough in this situation.
