We put 2 fat filled conifer cones in the garden and all the birds loved them!
The smaller ones like the blue tits, robins and sparrows had no problem getting a grip on them and using their beaks to peck at them but it was funny watching the blackbirds and starlings trying to imitate humming birds by hovering while they took a quick stab at it. LOL

Popped out for a fag early this morning and as I opened the back door heard the distinctive sound of a buzzard. Looked out and there were 2 circling low overhead so dashed back in for my camera. Within 15 seconds they had disappeared but had been very close and you could see the distinctive wingtip feathers with their upturn.
Turned round to put my camera away and caught these 2 crane fly having a little nookie on the corner of the window instead.

Watched one of those daft things once struggling to the get out of a puddle.
After about twenty minutes it managed to reach the edge and dry land - only to take off and fly straight back into the water.
