Hi,

Wonder if someone can help me with this one please ??

Has their been a significant increase in cost and availability of materials since the Covid crisis ?? I'm looking to get my wrap round extension done soon, but wondered if it would be worth it at the moment ??

Cheers (y)

Material availability has definitely been impacted and still is, and material pricing a bit

So it's not catastrophic ?? I'm not going to be paying 20% more for my extension ??

Unlikely, but it depends how you quantify. Anyone who was just starting the plastering side of an extension, say April/May time would have had a nightmare. There have been cases where builders have had the boards but no dab and the boards have then got soggy and useless (for dabbing).

Our supplier has been really good but not without a few glitches. Fill-in jobs have been an absolute nightmare, especially if they needed to be done swiftly.

Thanks for that, I'll be sure to mention it to the builders giving me quotes !! ;)

There have been a load f chancers on Facebook advertising "bought too much" bonding plaster for £25 a bag. "Apparently " they bought waaay too much as they seem to have quite a lot?

I would have thought that if someone has the materials, tradespeople might be quite keen to get some work? So the costs might be materials v Labour? I know that a chipie who's a mate's brother has had a drop off in work because people don't want people in the house?

best one I saw was £75 for a bag of multifinish on Amazon

I gave a bag away a couple of weeks ago along with a near full bag of dab and some thistle bonding. The bathroom fitter I gave it to was delirious.

I’d have done the same when the couple down the road knocked on my door and asked my wife if I had any spare plaster, they had a car full of plasterers up for the day from London who didn’t fancy laying on the bags of “make good” one coat they’d had to buy. I’d just used my last bag unfortunately. I did explain that using anything other than multi/board finish is a lot to ask of most spreads
