What have you been doing today?

Have to admit, that kind of food does nothing for me. Not a fish lover but if I do have some it has to be skinned on both sides and certainly not with the tail/head left on!

My FIL loves something called whitebait. Very small fishes, complete with head & tail, cooked on a bbq. YUK!

Mmmm. Whitebait, you eat the whole lot. When we go out with friends, a couple of us will invariably choose whitebait in breadcrumbs as a starter. We try to kid our veggie friend that they are just chips with eyes but she just ignores us. :ROFLMAO:

Sold that in the pub I worked in - not very often I may add..

Rollmops, brawn.. these things too should be banned!

Showing my ignorance. Whats rollmops?

BTW, I used to love brawn and mash as a child.

Pickled herrings are fine. Popular in Northern and Eastern Europe. I like them cold with bread and onions but also served hot.

People who grew up in immigrant areas such as London's East End may have a taste for them.

When I was young, we used to have a bloke come round our street in Canning Town every Sunday morning on a horse drawn cart. On the back he had a selection of shellfish. Winkles, cockles, whelks, crab, jellied eels, prawns, shrimps, mussels etc. It was all laid out, on the open cart, in the sun. In the week, the same man came round with his horse and cart collecting scrap iron and rags. Wouldn’t be allowed nowdays!

Health and safety gone mad :)

Used to be a trend to have fish bars pull up outside pubs too back in the day. A skinful of beer followed by a jar of cockles on their way home, what could possibly go wrong?!

Roll mops
Jellied eels
Brawn
Black pudding
Hagis
Mushy peas
Marrofat peas

Jeez give me a bucket to lob up in :)

What's right with them?!

It was once popular.. have you eaten it since you were a child?

I tried it once when I was in my early 20's and hated it.

I still like black pudding, mushy peas (but only with chips), and marrowfat peas. Never tried haggis but don't like the sound of it.

I had haggis in a pub in Edinburgh. Lovely, tasted like faggots but looked a bit 'sloppier'. Another long forgotten food. Faggots, pease pudding and carrots. Mm. Mm. Mmm.
