Hysteria? I agree woodies overreacting a bit but I'm not sure anyone involved in this is hysterical.

Why is it a news worthy item? Because an MP being pulled over for driving whilst black is unusual and undercuts most of the normal line about how they probably deserved it.

In this example we've discovered that the police can't spell and don't know the rules on what you can and can't do with window tints. Either they're really incompetent or they're making **** up to avoid admitting what really happened.

the hysteria is caused by her recording it (she seemed to be especially happy whilst recording the video, verging on excitement at the fact she knew she was onto a winner on social media and has done her reputation absolutely no harm, in fact if anything its helped her career as now people know who she is, i bet most didn't have a clue who she was including the cops )

lets face it, this has been turned into something it didn't need to be, the police pulled them over, they (police) were especially nice about it, whether the reason is spurious or they miss typed a letter it doesn't matter, it is a small mole hill which has been made out to be a mountain.

does anyone have proof that the police saw they were black before they pulled the car over? i know when i'm driving you cant always tell the colour of the occupants from driving behind, especially so if the windows are tinted.

Yes you do need to find some supporting evidence to justify your perception.
Otherwise it is simply prejudicial preconceived conjecture.

One could easily argue that there is a perception some women have an attitude, without mentioning the colour of their skin.
It would still be sexist, unless it was supported by some evidence to suggest the perception was justified.

Did the distrust of the police come first. or did the institutional racism of the police come first? Whose responsibility is it to remove that distrust of the police by the black community, and what is the best way to achieve it? By continuing to stop and search an unacceptable number of black people.

The clip doesn't show Dawn Butler being very dignified.

I think black people probably are racially profiled by the police and so black people probably have an attitude when they are stopped as they get stopped more.

And thus both sides are wrong.

Some plod do have an attitude, I'm sure they dish it out to white people too.

If Dawn Butler wanted to make a difference, she should have been quiet and respectful, then taken her footage to the police chief and offered to work with them. Not turn it into some point scoring exercise that causes a backlash.

There is fault on both sides. The police face hostility everyday, that makes them cynical and have an attitude. Dawn Butler had an attitude.

The police can stop a vehicle for any reason. If they ask you to stop, you should always pull over when it’s safe to do so. You’re breaking the law if you do not stop.

If you’re stopped, the police can ask to see your:

• driving licence
• insurance certificate
• MOT certificate

You MUST then pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.​

That could mean 150 yards down the road. It could mean leaving that road entirely, onto a side or different road.

I personally would look for a safe parking position, probably one that takes up the only parking space. Certainly not on yellow, or double yellow lines. I wouldn't want to give them another excuse.
