comparing NZ with the UK is not of any great worth.
Germany, however....
comparing NZ with the UK is not of any great worth.
Germany - 10000 deaths (source: Worldometer)
comparing NZ with the UK is not of any great worth.

China only has 4600 deaths , that must be really safe given its size/population?As you say, Germany, a developed, European country, larger, similar demographics, and with a larger population and more travellers, but a well-funded, organised and equipped health system, has less than a quarter the number of death in the UK.
But comparing Germany to the UK is very instructive.

Perhaps the UK only has 10,000 actual covid deaths.
If only someone knew the real figure.
I think the ONS methodology is pretty good on Covid deaths.
Yes
Based on reading carefully the ONS methodology
And having given due consideration to the difficulty of deciding primary cause, which in the elderly can be difficult, given they often have a number of pre-conditions
But of course you are welcome to be a sarcastic tw@t and assume I used the word "think" without basing it on knowledge.
Those that believe the pandemic is a scam often try and claim Covid death figures are vastly over blown.
My point is it is comparing eggs with apples. also if the deaths are based on culture and behavior should you blame their governments?

Could you confirm exactly what parameters Germany uses if a Covid death is recorded as such? I know our system was initially just that Covid19 had to be mentioned on the death certificate. If a person in Germany died from a blood clot would they be classed as a Covid death if it was confirmed 2 months previous for example? Probably not, Hence you cannot compare one nation with another unless all the stats are compiled in a harmonized way. ONS excess deaths would be a good comparison but even that would not pinpoint actual Covid deaths and many nations do not record such statistics in such a precise wayUnlike you, I didn't propose comparing UK results with China.
I did, however, say that comparing UK and Germany was instructive.
It still is.

IF there is a real difference then maybe you have provided your own answer to this quandary already? The Germans are know to be very disciplined people after all.or is it strikingly different from the UK in many fundamental ways, including culture, behaviour, government and institutions?
