71 pages of paperwork for 1 lorry of fish

Is "it's all Brexit related" clear enough for you?

"Government has not been straight with fishing industry, says Sam Baron of Baron Shellfish, Bridlington

A lobster exporter who is winding up his 60-year-old family business has blamed the government for failing to be honest about Brexit red tape and hidden costs.

Sam Baron, who worked alongside his father to set up Baron Shellfish in Bridlington, east Yorkshire, said that the government has failed to be straight with the fishing industry.

Industry experts said that Baron Shellfish, the first lobster-tank business in Europe’s largest shellfish port, appears to be the first big exporter to have announced its closure.

...

“It is all Brexit-related – the extra costs, extra paperwork and the extra gamble, and it is down to the government and the EU.

“Every time you send out transport with lobster, it is like playing Russian roulette with five bullets in your gun.”

Funny thing about shellfish. The vast bulk of uk sourced goes to mainland EU. Not much is consumed here really. A coast guard person, the type that runs about in a big boat with guns told that the bulk of the licenses are owned by none uk companies. They have a pretty hefty monetary turn over in total.

Reserves have been introduced - Brexit - mmmm well some were while in the EU as well. Total fishing deal - long time to fully implement. So boring I didn't look for further details as unlikely to be sudden and total due to negotiations.

Speaking from Bridlington on Monday, where he is in the process of dismantling hundreds of lobster crates, Baron said: “All we have had is bullshit from the government, promises that haven’t been kept. I am winding up the business while I still have enough to pay redundancy to my staff."

Any comment on the loss of the UK to EU shellfish industry?

Very interesting. What I find particularly interesting about this "60 year old family business" is the date of incorporation. Amazing or what!

Any comment on that luv?

The word "business" does not infer a limited company

Michael Baron died in 2018, he resigned in 2017

he ran the business all his life, then passed it to his sons Sam and Neil and incorporated at the same time.

What's amazing about that?

Poor Mottie desperately clinging to anything to admit Brexit is a shambolic failure.

It's never the fault of Brexit....

It's lazy businessmen
Or stupid musicians
Or maybe just maybe a company isn't 60 years old

What other excuses ya got :ROFLMAO:

your post with yet another snide comment, picking at another member. One of scores.
Poor Mottie
Yeah, poor Mottie. Just had my post replying to Notch's #97 post deleted by a moderator. I bet you and Lal haven’t had any posts deleted. What more can I say? Pointless me proceeding any further with this when the mods are so biased - unless it was you or Lal that complained?

"Sam Baron, who worked alongside his father to set up Baron Shellfish"

Some UK business have been lazy in respect to the EU. Some mainland EU web sites have a series of flags at the top of the page. Click on them and the language changes. These are often German sites but .............. find one of ours offering the same. Ebay is similar. They are often fringe things that are being sold but our lot just sit around moaning and going bust.

Continental Europeans have grown up with the various languages. It's all in a day's work for them. I suspect a vast majority of continental Europeans are fluent in at least two languages, even if one of them is a local language, such Basque, Occitan, Breton, etc.

Edit: Just been looking it up, apparently only just over half the population of France had French as their mother-tongue in the home.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_France

That would indicate that nearly half of France may be, at least, bilingual.

At the chip shop the weekend, they ran out of tandoori chicken meat. I had to make do with just smoked chicken and lamb kebab meat. :(

Obviously Brexit related.
