Exposed foundations of boundary wall

I am hoping to lay a patio in my back garden. The garden is sloped so I have started digging out to make the patio level. This has started to expose the boundary wall foundations. (single brick wall). To make the patio level I would need to dig below the foundation level for part of the wall (about 3 metres along the wall) once the hardcore was laid for the patio this would still leave the foundations exposed. I was thinking of making a concrete ledge that would go to just above the foundations which I would then render. Would this be sufficient to secure the foundations of the wall? Is there any problems with this approach? would I need to go further and underpin the wall?

I am new to all this so any help appreciated.

The joys of some dodgy builder/brick layer building a wall with crap foundations. You will spend near enough the same amount of money underpinning a wall, as you would removing the wall and rebuilding.

Can I assume you mean a half brick wall as a brick is 215mm. A one brick brick garden wall is two bricks parallel to one another with a 10mm gap, thus giving a 215mm thick wall (one brick).

No. That seems like a cosmetic solution to suit you and will do nothing to support a foundation.

But more details of the wall size and thickness and photos may help.

Thanks for the responses. It is a half brick wall then, just one row of bricks along. The house was built in 1905 and it's the original wall. It's 1.3m high and I would want to go about 20cm below the foundation level.
