Hartlepool

There has always been a need to change and adapt, so what's new. I spent my life constantly changing and adapting to new situations.

Then there is no need for the levelling up agenda then. Let people move to the areas of demand. Let other areas decline. So why do they want change?

...closures of mines, they left these northern towns to fend for themselves and for investment.

Changes in demand and technologies made the closure of coal mines inevitable, but the government of the day should have prepared better for it. It's like the local authority banning cars from the City. Nice fluffy idea - good for the green credentials - but it kills the City. What they should do is provide decent public transport first and then ban cars.

But the same people complain about bus lanes, bike lanes and the Government then cuts funding for public transport and still wants to meet a green agenda. Nothing adds up.

There are demographic changes taking place. Look at Hartlepool it has a higher percentage of people over 50 than the national average. The young have been leaving these northern towns for opportunities in the cities. Broadly speaking as the cities have a younger population and the towns and rural areas have and older population they are voting along those lines- young for labour and old for Tory.

So these people who are older tend to own their homes and are more culturally conservative whilst the young tend to rent their homes and are culturally more liberal. The benefits system has cushioned many of these older voters with thei triple lock whilst the cuts to universal credit has impacted the younger voters more.

Now as we have a FPTP system and racking up votes in cities where labour is strong will not achieve them power anytime soon no matter how un woke they become.
people will always get older and wiser - the young may well turn to Labour with idealistic naive dreams, but they will eventually be over 50 and far wiser. Old people dying is not the solution to your political wishes.

That ‘seems’ to ‘be’ the ‘wish’ of at ‘least’ one ‘poster’ on ‘here’! AKA the ‘apostrophe/exclamation’ mark ‘guy’!:LOL:

Well at least the muppet (who was supposed to be ignoring me  ) has got the gender right!

And of course the creepy old man's ( AKA the muppet) time will probably come long before me (y)

people will always get older...

people will always get older and some will get bitter, selfish and greedy as they age. These people will give up their youthful desire to help others and build a better world, and will become increasingly right-wing with age.

Do you know the average age of members of the Conservative Party?

When you start having a dig at people because of their age, you need to take a long hard look at yourself. Cockwombles extrastrength.

Older yes, but people tend to become more socially conservative as they age. They are not worried about jobs as much as maintaining their wealth and accessing healthcare.

Economics plays less a concern for them than for the young. So how do you manage the rising dependency ratio?

It was around 51% in 2010 and now about 56.5%.

But they stupidly fail to realise that they rely on the younger generations to provide for them in their old age as they themselves provided for their elders...

My political ideals (well 95% of them) have never changed and never will...

So f*ck the old bar stewards!

Putting a staunch remainer as Labour candidate in Hartlepool just goes to show how out of touch Starmer is. There were 5000+ ex Brexit supporter votes up for grabs. Labour are still sitting on the Brexit fence :sleep:
