Hello

My front door is painted a traditional period colour - I think it is British Racing Green (the door is an original Victorian over 120 years old). I want to change it to a nice traditional Navy Colour.

Once fully rubbed down, filled etc - do I apply a grey undercoat before applying two coats of topcoat?

Many thanks

You can use a grey undercoat.

Or you can get a blue undercoat made up (give them the colour of the topcoat and they can find an appropriate undercoat).

This way you may only need one topcoat. The problem with oil-based top coat is it takes a while to harden, so if you need to do any minor sanding before a second topcoat, you risk damaging the first topcoat - which is hard to put right.

Be sure to prime all bare wood.

Thank you. Appreciated.
