The lack of EU workers means UK farmers are reducing their crops for next year.

There's nothing inherently wrong with increased pay, as long as it is accompanied by increased productivity.
An increase in pay for the same or less productivity is a fool's paradise and will lead to an inflationary spiral.

Supply chain problems will cause lower productivity, discarded produce due to shortage of workers does cause lower productivity. It's an utter nonsense to pay any remaining workers higher wages for lower productivity, on the basis that it will (hopefully) attract recruitment. All that will do is to merely move the labour shortage along the line, to somewhere else. It does not resolve the supply chain, nor the labour shortage problems.

I watched a BBC item regarding the supply chain, on how it's having a hard impact on companies: the cost of a container pre-covid was $1,300 and it now costs $18,000 The CEO of Happy Puzzles said he could offset some of the price increase by using smaller boxes that allows them to move more units at a time but the consumer will inevitably bear most of the price increase, especially in other goods which cannot be reduced in size or quantity.
It really isn't a happy puzzle how the UK can avoid the coming turmoil in the world markets as the increases in demand is being choked along the supply chain. Brexit isn't the cause of this problem but its effect will certainly bring about problems that could've been avoided.

And if wages go up without a commensurate rise in productivity, it causes inflation, wage rises create an ever-increasing spiral of increases in costs/prices.
UK goods become uncompetitive. Exports are reduced, yet imports increase due to discarded goods, caused by labour shortages, or surplus UK goods, caused by lost exports. The pound loses its international value. It's a recipe for an economic disaster.
Of course, I could be wrong, and BoJo could be right.

Watching Nadhim Zahawi on Question time last night.
Is he trying to emulate BJ with his hesitant bluster, or has he lost the plot.
I found the female comedians comments easier to follow than Nadhim's.
I suspect he'll be for the high jump fairly soon, unless there's no-one more capable to replace him.
Blind allegiance and hero worship of BJ will not be sufficient to save him, for the hawks in the higher ranks of the party.

Simplified processes, shorter journey times, different materials, out-sourcing, different work processes, more complicated machines, automation, etc.
I'm sure that many could think of more ways that productivity can be increased.

productivity increases are only relevant in some sectors.

Chamber maids, carers, nurses, hospital staff, fruit pickers, meat processors.

often they are already pushed to the limit to work themselves ragged on minimum wages.


And Brexit doesn’t create a stable environment for businesses to replace Labour with capital.
