If a radiator has no TRV - what does it need instead?

Hey

Sorry for the very basic question! Just putting my Screwfix shopping order together. We'll be putting a radiator in the bathroom and don't want that to have a TRV. So what does it have instead? A lockshield on both sides?

Any recommendations on what to get for a Stelrad Compact?

To demonstrate my ignorance even further.... They're lockshield valves aren't they? If so, the piece on the right - is that part of it? I have two valves, but only one of those pieces.

The part on far right of pic is the valve tail ,joins valve into radiators threaded port.
The valve is indeed a lockshield.

Just a reminder that not all lockshields are made equal.

If you are going to use one for balancing, get one with good valve authority.

Thanks for the recommendation. They don't seem all that readily available. Not from a google search that is...

The ones I have are Plumb Centre Tradefix / Wolseley... Presume they're budget, but are they good enough? Our central heating is more of a back up as the main heat in the house is from wood burners. But I don't want anything that's going to leak, and I do like the buy once / buy right philosophy.

I've only got the one tail though. No idea what happened to the other one but never mind... I presume the plumber can just re-use the tail from the radiator he is replacing? Or else might have one on the van?

Have a look inside the lockshield, if the bore is reduced compared to the fitting then it likely will have good valve authority and really make balancing easier.

Sometimes the cheap ones are either totally rubbish or surprisingly good.
