Extractor is this faulty

My previous post was about a faulty extractor, which I replaced with a working one from the bathroom. This is now working fine in the ensuit as it should do.
So I have just got a replacement which is an Xpelair VX100T.
I installed it, not working, I have wired it on a bench as attached image, still not working. I have connected N & T together. I get 240v across L & N & across L & T. (I used yellow/green wire & coloured it black for timer.

Is it me or the unit?

The timer should be live, not neutral.
There should be 0V between L and Timer.
Ok thanks just changed that round (its still on the bench)
Brown/Blue 240
Brown/Black 167
Blue/black 0

Just found circuit on line
So if I connect Timer to Live & Neutral to N the fan should run continuously ?

Yes.
For testing I would normally put:
- Brown Wire in Live Connection
- Blue Wire in Nutural Connection
- A short link wire from Live Connection to Switched connection.

All your voltages look wrong.
I would be expecting, Between:
Brown(L) wire and Blue(N) Wire = 240Vac
Brown(L) wire and Black Timer Wire(L) Wire = 0Vac (as it is they are joined together they are the same wire and so same voltage)
Blue(N) wire and Black Timer Wire(L) Wire = 240Vac

(No idea why you have 167Volts)

?Is your brown wire actually the Live wire?
- wire colour does not always correctly indicate the voltage as wire might be connected incorrectly further up the system).

Sorry if I have missed anything, but,

you say you are doing this on a bench; does that mean you are using a plug?

As far as I know. The fan I removed worked without ANY issues.
 
My suggestion for using 'a loop wire at the fan' is becuase it tests to see if any issues with your Timer Wire.
Might be useful as the 167Volts looks out of place.
 
Ok will try this Sunday. I'm still thinking the unit is faulty. I'm glad I'm doing on the bench, as my neck would he killing me. Lol

Ok just started from scratch as your testing method, still not working (this is still on the bench so its easy to do). Im guessing its faulty will deal with it Monday. Thanks for your input.
 
As it happens I have just replaced a timer fan with a failed motor.
Retrieving it from the recycling and wiring it without any connexion to the T terminal thus: (this is your pic, mine is a different unit)

I measured: 142 volts between T & N and 204V between T & L using a digital multimeter. Don't get concerned they add up to 346V

Your test at 176V is very much in keeping with my test.

Repeating the test using an elderly mechanical meter with a much lower resistance (250V range @ 2KΩ/V = 0.5MΩ)
I measured: 18V between T & N and 87V between T & L (as best I can judge on a 250 scale without a mirror) and the later test between T & L started the fan (in my case made the failed motor buzz)

This is how we would make the motor run permanently with a link wire:

Yippee, all working.
2 issues.
1 black wire in ceiling wasn't the neutral.
2 there us a delay before the fan fires up & I wasn't waiting long enough.

Doh - sorry I should of thought of that.
Some of mine have the same - 'pop into bathroom without starting' operation.
