Does anyone know of a CCTV system, which can be installed by a DIYer, that can operate on a noise activation of camera recording rather than motion detection?
I'm having trouble with neighbours noise, and I'm looking for a system to collect evidence.

A simple Noise Activated recorder is no good because it does not time stamp the recordings, and it lumps it all together as one file anyway.
A CCTV system with the appropriate functionality would be ideal, but I've yet to find one that works on noise activation.
It's frustrating because the capability exists, it's just a matter of sticking the right components together.
I've seen a DLink camera advert that offers such functionality, even to adjusting the noise level of activation, but a) I think it's an American one, and b) I think it's a monitoring option by a security company, and c) I can't find an appropriate recorder to accommodate it.

Ideally the system would allow the noise activation sound level to be adjustable, and ideally, the recordings would a) flag up as events on the recorder, and b) be searchable via fast forward and reverse, or be colour coded. Currently all recordings are silenced in the fast forward or revers modes, so finding a noise is like living every day as a Groundhog day. finding the noise in normal play mode, and noting the times, then repeating the same play, but with a file extraction or record function.

Finally, the system would need to pass security examination so the time and date adjustment must be reasonably secure, or logged, or accessible only by secure personnel.

Are the police / council aware of the noise issue and have they given any guidance. recording of audio from your neighbour is necessary as its a noise issue, but there are issues with recording audio of your neighbours.

Thanks for your response, but it's beside the point. I'm not wanting to nor attempting to record their speech or conversations.

No your wanting to time stamp the noise, but in doing so you must be aware that you may record an conversation, as a time stamp is nothing without the noise that your having issues with being recorded.

You need to document it and noise issues are dealt with usually with environmental health and the police as necessary. They surely must have given you some guidance on what to do and or suitable products?

Been in houses where you can hear the neighbours through the walls. Clear enough to make out what they are saying, inbetween the racket they have been making.
If the noise isn't disturbing your sleep, then the issue probably isnt bad enough.
If it does wake you up an app on your phone can take a recording and time stamp it can it not???

There will be products out there that allow audible search, but dont know any that I can recommend unfortunately

Again thanks for your input, it isn't people that I want to record, and it isn't inside.
And I have notices up outside that warn people that CCTV is in operation. But the things I want to record can't read.

You want to time stamp the noise?
No idea what the noise is but recording noisy neighbours means you have to have proof, the best proof is time stamped audio.

Cctv was designed for recording images ….. not capturing audio
Exactly, but unless anyone has any better suggestions for capturing time stamped audio, with the functionality of copying the relevant files to another medium, like a memory stick, I'm limited to a CCTV system that records noise, ideally, a system that is noise activated. Hence the question.
I already have CCTV cameras with microphone built in. I can already record noise on that system but it is unacceptably cumbersome, to find the noise.
The cameras do not record, nor cover the area of the source of the noise by image.

If your DVR/NVR has alarm inputs, then you may be able to use a sound activated relay/ output to wire to to your NVR/DVR.

However you want it trigger on noise above a certain level ideally and not on a voice command

Yes I know the technology exists, it's just a matter of putting the right components in the right order, but I don't have the required knowledge or skill. That is why I wanted an off-the-shelf product.
The recorder does have motion detection alarms capability and functionality, which it colour codes on a search.
The search type is normal, motion, manual and I/O (whatever that means). There is also mainstream, substream and bitstream, whatever that is.

off the shelf I cant think of a product as its not something we get any enquiries for and it certainly isnt pushed for by anyone either.

If it was something we dealt with could give you a better idea, but the police and environmental health do deal with noise complaints regularly.so thought they may have had some guidance.

CCTV DVR Alarm Input / Alarm Relay Output Setup - Bing video

don't know what models you have of what equipment, the sound activated relay module would need a microphone connecting to it.

The wiring should be straight forward as in the video above, but the sound activated module itself I have no clue on.

I already have a microphone in the cameras.
I don't have the knowledge, nor the skills, nor the equipment to start fiddling inside the box. And I don't have access to the programming of the recorder. And I wouldn't want to invalidate any warranty etc.
Which is why I wanted an off-the-shelf product.
But it would appear none exist.
But thanks for your interest.

The alternative is to get one of these video editors where it shows the video and audio streams, and you would look for blips in the audio stream, indicating a noise above background has been made.

It does mean processing the data semi manually. but probably more cost effective and quicker, as the footage is already recorded you would just be looking at it. you can then select the blip play and see what you think and use the cameras time stamp.

off the shelf there probably are packages but not cost effective as your looking for an analytics package and these arent often cheap.
Looked at a few of my suppliers for possibilities.

As for microphones in your cameras, unless you have an audio out from the camera or NVR/DVR it wouldn't be able to use the third party device. You havent told use what equipment you have got so cant look for an of the shelf solution for your system, if indeed there is one.

Do you know of a CCTV system off the shelf that shows an audio stream along with the video stream.
I have a Bascom four camera system, The advert shows a sound wave, and I mistakenly thought it would show an audio stream, it doesn't, and like all other systems explored it is silent on fast forward and reverse.
As said before, I don't have the skills, nor the knowledge, nor the equipment to start fiddling with adding components to the existing recorder. I need an off-the-shelf product.
With the proper system, I'm more than happy to de-install all the existing equipment to re-install new equipment.
