New Covid Variant - B.1.1.529

For all you anti-mask people out there that believe some nonsense about them not being effective ...

"‘The evidence is clear that people should wear masks to reduce virus transmission and protect themselves, with most countries recommending the public to wear them. Yet clear policy recommendations that the public should broadly wear them has been unclear and inconsistent in some countries such as England.’"
Professor Melinda Mills, Director of the Leverhulme Centre

There is too much evidence to support face masks as a means to reduce the spread of covid to share all here. Anybody that thinks covering your mouth and nose does not stop airborne viruses getting into, or out of, your nose and mouth, has a screw loose.

If you wear your mask to protect everyone else then you must also be aware that you may possibly be carrying & spreading this virus.

Please explain why Surgeons, nursing staff , Doctors and those that are involved with open wounds wear face masks , Have they been doing it wrong all these years ?

Simple rule to help stop the spread of covid:

If you don't want to wear a mask, shut your mouth. Permanently.

Surely your mask is protecting you against the virus?

Deep down you must know that it isn't, yet you still cling to your belief that wearing your mask is somehow protecting you.

fabric face coverings arent designed to protect the wearer

they protect others -so the systems works most effectively if everyone wears them -it is about collective effort

they also protect the wearer!

It's just much harder to test their effectiveness in a laboratory controlled way, but it's obvious they help. It's like saying, covering your mouth with a mask won't reduce smoke particles in a fire.

Unfortunately England has chosen a leader who is a useless buffoon.

Not only does he fail to wear a mask, even in a hospital, he fails to wear one in a large meeting hall surrounded by hundreds of other people, and he fails to wear one in a small meeting room crammed tight with dozens of others squeezed round a single table. His acolytes follow his lead and even make up ludicrous excuses in an attempt to rationalise their foolish behaviour.

The country needs proper leadership.

do the math.
He don’t even believe his own bs .
why would you?
It’s almost as if he knows you enjoy being treated like a little kid.

Washing hands has always been best advice for slowing down the spread of virus, long before this pandemic. I would also advocate sanitising after potential contact - such as after handling shopping trollies etc. I'm less convinced about masks. A nurse friend of mine told me about the extra training they had for putting on, wearing and taking off/disposal of masks, and I can assure you nobody goes through that routine. And if they are so good, why is it that England covid rates have been lower than Scotland and NI where masks have been mandatory all along?

Many other factors are at play, other than mask wearing. Mask wearing, just one thing which helps reduce spread if worn.

you are conflating infection control procedures for protecting the wearer with fabric face coverings to restrict the spread of virus from the wearer

the concept is very simple: masks were introduced around the same time as the social distancing was reduced to 1 metre -if you sneeze when you are wearing mask the spread os far less with a mask on.

And no there is no definitive proof because during alive pandemic, a double blind study is never going to happen.....so the scientists have to rely on gathering the best interpretation of a range of data.
