There was a case in Liverpool last night of a 9 year old girl and her parents being shot, the little girl is dead and the parents seriously wounded.

I see no reason for this scumbag to ever walk the streets again. Seems like unless the crime becomes a massive public outrage, like Jamie Bulger or a terrorist attack, the perpetrator will get a sentence I’d consider lenient for the crime.

It’s not even just these violent crimes, there was a cop show on tv the other day and the cops are chasing a stolen car that’s doing ridiculous speeds through built up town, driving up the wrong side of the road at like 80+ mph.

They could have taken out an entire family, cops catch them as usual and it’s a pair of teenagers who are sat in the cop car laughing about it … they got 8 months probation or whatever you call it and a ban for x amount of years.

Where’s the deterrence?

I don't think the death penalty would deter people.

He will be locked up for 10 years, but the life sentence means he can be recalled (if released) at any time. Unfortunately the sentence seems about right for the category and is within the charging standards guidelines.

Raise the sentences substantially and if they get a discount, for pleading guilty, then it is deducted from the original sentence on condition they have behaved the entire time they were banged up. Slightest bit of trouble inside and they lose the discount.
Personally I think all discounts should be abolished and do away with early release for being a good boy/girl. You get sentenced to 5 years you serve 5 years. Misbehave inside and you get extra.
And whats with these concurrent sentences? How can you commit a string of offences, some of them quite violent, get a number of different sentences and then serve them all at the same time? Consecutive would be more realistic, then they get punished for each individual crime.

The shot that killed this child was intended for one Joseph Nee, who had burst into the girl's house whilst being pursued. He is being treated for gunshot wounds.

I'm not normally a fan of the death penalty but I'd quite happily see the guys responsible for this torn limb from limb in Liverpool city centre.
