Dan Snow took an interesting trip around Pompeii last night, right through the historical timeline from it's discovery. The preservation of the buildings still amazes me. One place on my bucket list i hope to get round to some day.

Yes, what else would you expect? The buried bodies under the lava, were burned to dust, just leaving a void in the set lava. Clearing the lava, the came across the voids, and filled them with plaster, which formed the shape of the original body.
