Bombed out of there eads ??
It doesn't matter what anybody wants to protest about.

But in this thread it was an agreed protest at an agreed place, where people were arrested and detained.

Tough I say

One time a day you turned up to protest with a crash helmet

Said protesters need to go to France and do a course on protesting

You ever been arrested ????

The old saying "It's easier to apologise than ask in the first place" applies here.

Get them out of the way so that the thousands of people supporting the King can enjoy their day.
I support what they did.

You'll be OK then, just as long as you always agree with whatever the king is saying or doing and don't raise any objections to anything.

Doesn't sound anything like a democracy to me.

We do not live in a democratic republic. People seem to be confused on this point.

We don't live in a democratic anything.

Having a king with actual powers means it's not a democracy.

Some are either happy to keep things as they are, or perhaps don't appreciate that we are being fooled by the establishment.

Others want things to change, to modernise and progress. We, as a grown-up nation, should debate and consider this. The establishment doesn't even want the debate, presumably they know that their position is untenable so the only way to win the argument is to suppress other ideas.

Most people don't particularly care one way or the other about royalty. There are fanatic royalists, those who want a republic and probably the majority who don't care strongly either way. But I suspect that many could be persuaded to the republic side of the argument if we discussed it openly.

All MPs are required to pledge allegiance to the king, and debate about the king's position in the country is not allowed in parliament, at all, ever. So there is no democratic route for those who think we should change, therefore protest is the only way to present an alternative opinion. If the right to protest is taken away then there are no other legal options.

start a thread and see if your theory has legs...

I think this thread is showing there are some with blind allegiance to the king and the establishment
Start an internet debate about anything and someone will argue passionately for one side or the other.

It's football fan syndrome, the need to have a cause you believe in. Asking someone with this mindset about anything to consider alternatives is like asking a Man U fan to think about whether Man City might be worth supporting. Grunt, angry response, end of thought process.

I wouldn't use internet chat as a yardstick of anything. Most people aren't typing here.

If true, that would explain Charles I.

No other option available to us.

Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle intervened and told MPs: “We normally would not, and quite rightly, mention the royal family. We do not get into discussions on the royal family.”

Doesn't sound much like a democracy to me.

The establishment asserts that nobody should discuss it.

This is how power is maintained, if it's indefensible then just ban anyone having an alternative view.

Republic is a huge threat to the establishment, probably the most organised and professional looking protest movement in modern memory. They'll probably get taken down somehow, some dirt will be dished or something.

The royals are merely the tip of the iceberg, there are lots of rich and powerful lords, earls and all the rest with vast unearned fortunes. They'll do everything possible to maintain the status quo, and sadly many flag-waving working class people will cheer them on.
