I live between two small local stations, on a main line. I used to hear during the day, the train driver blowing their horns, on the approach to the stations, and at several countryside foot crossing points along the route, where there would be 'WHISTLE' signs alongside the track. I would sometimes be able to track the train's progress, as it disappeared into the distance, for several miles. During the night, they didn't sound the horns.
But, not anymore. Have they changed the rules, so they don't need to whistle anymore?
