Electric Meter

More irrelevant waffle (in the context of the thread).
What does your energy supplier cannot disconnect without first assessing your situation.
That seems quite obvious and open to interpretation don't you think?
Anyway when we've got rid of gas and coal and rely on the wind to blow for our electricity, then I think we'll see smart meters come into their own when demand outstrips what's in the grid.

Without question seemingly.
What's not to like?
My life has been (very slightly) simpler, since they were installed, a number of years ago. Hardly life changing I agree. But what's not to like about fit and forget?

Don’t see any advantage to the caper of a smart meter

All a load of baloney for the gullible who are easily lead any way

It's a serious security concern for every nation these days, as this report @Reuters.com explains. Russia has shown how ruthless it is in prosecuting this war in Ukraine and it'd make your hair curl to learn how many times a hostile power, such as North Korea, will attempt to hack into the energy grid to cause chaos. Remember the Worm-32 wriggling its way around the NHS system a few years ago?
Yep but some people still put their heads in the sand about the possibility of stuff like this .

I was an early adopter, when there were only the SM 1's around, so I suffered lots of periods of them not being smart, when I changed suppliers. Basically, they became dumb meters - no better, no worse. A time when if I wanted accurate bills, I would need to send them accurate readings. Now, I understand those supplier change/sm issues are at an end.

With fully working SM's I now have near instantaneous billing and consumption data, from either my suppliers website, or via an app on my phone - direct from my meters. All neatly graphed out, by the half-hour, day, month etc.. What's not to like?

Tiny Russians hiding in the meters, hackers turning my meters off, reds hiding under my bed - I think some people need to grow up, and grow a pair.. It's just called progress.

Smart meter wrongly over reads or energy firm make a mistake
bill is disputed.
smart meter remotely switched to pre-pay until "debt" repaid.
energy firm sits back counting the money given you cannot get power without pre-payment and will have to pay more.
Brian hits his targets.

Then Brian's a very naughty boy. He hasn't followed the process set out in the Standards of Conduct or his employers licence conditions.

Finally you understand what has been going on.

It doesn’t change the fact that I would like one installed.
