Daytime Running Lights Crisis

I remember the volvo's with their permanently on daytime side lights, probably started mid 70's, people use to flash them until the penny dropped. I shouldn't think led headlights take up a huge amount of energy as opposed to say aircon.

Blup

As kids when DRLs first came out on Volvos (they had them decades before others) we used to point at them and shout to the driver that their lights are on. Well we thought it was funny at the time.

There are lies, damned lies & then there are statistics. Please stop believing your Gov'n'Mnts lies through its statistics.

If the 'official' casualty figures are falling then please explain the anomaly of your insewerence industry paying out to more casualties than ever before . . . . This is just one of the anomalies, there are many more signposts that reflect the true rate of casualties on our roads.

Risk compensation is a very real phenomena & in the real world it can be proven that making our vehicles 'safer' is actually increasing the risk of us being hurt by them.

Best to believe the made-up non-facts churned out by a dork, eh?

According to statistics me & my cat both have 3x legs. This is silly, neither I nor my cat actually have 3x legs, but my cat has 4x & I have 2x, so if we add up the number of legs 6 & divide that by 2 then according to statistics me & my cat both have 3x legs.

You must understand that it is up to the rules of how the statistics are formulated that governs the results.

This doesn't take into account that 78.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot & the rest of 'em are probably formulated by journalists over a cup of tea. Then you need to ask yourself the question "when did anybody ever ask me"? This is especially relevant when your mayor tells you that statistically you are gagging to either buy a new car or pay what's left of your expendable income to drive your current car to the shops & back.

Last time I checked 100% of us were born & one day we will die, this & the fact that 100% of flat roofs will leak are the only 2x statistics which can be considered truthful, the rest are either lies, damned lies or just formulated in such way that the results suit the narrative.

BTW. Statistically the average family has 2.4 children. I have looked far & wide in all 4 corners of the globe but still I cannot find any of these .4 children !

Where is your graph of person road miles travelled to give the graphs meaning?

Edit
Which is especially relevant to
Here you go, pretty static for the last 10-20 years

as said. Despite decades of speed reduction policy and massive jumps in vehicle safety none of the “Speed kills” strategy has worked.

So passenger miles consistently rising (as expected)

Bit of a dip around 2020 I see.

You shouldn't rely on KSI or the KSI adjusted. Look at SI and K independently. SI is incompatible with K as data set. If K goes up 50% and SI goes down 10% every cheers when in fact it would be terrible. SI data is also very unreliable as it often doesn't get reported. a Serious Injury is not as it seems. It can be something quite minor most of the time.

Despite massive technological improvements, the rise of speed cameras and slashing of speed limits everywhere road casualty statistics have not changed for over a decade.

And total casualties consistently falling.

With a bit of a dip around 2020

So total travelling people increasing, total casualties falling.

This is what you choose to call no improvement.

I keep them on if the driver doesn't understand the concept of stopping distance.

The risk then, is of them not noticing your brakes lights come on, due to the dazzle from your rear fogs, though the high level brake lights do help with that issue. Like many - My own tail, brake and fog lights, are all in one single red housing.
