This green (Ed: Protection of the environment)

Is it because TPTB (politicians). are scared of saying that you, the population, have to save more for your old age; (religious leaders) still praising big families rather telling people that big families - that's 2plus births - are crime against humanity!

The message isn't getting through quick enough!

More people need more food, energy, housing, waste disposal, medical care, transportation, Water! The earth has finite resources that are being consumed at an ever increasing rate.
No doubt fewer people in the world as a whole would be a good thing, but currently first-world governments are worrying about falling population and declining birthrates, not overpopulation.

Going by Earth's history, ice ages starting about 50 million years ago, with 17 over the last 2.5 million years, there was every reason to think another one would come along at some point, though maybe not by 2030 (from 1970s perspective). Whether it has been forestalled by anthropogenic global warming is anybody's guess.
indeed, without the mess we're making, we would be in a cooling period (all to do with tilt of sun and reduced radiation or something) although these natural events happen so slowly (like every 100,000 years) we would never see the slightest change in our life time.

What we have been doing to our atmosphere over the last 100 years is just disastrous, the planet is now warming up at an unfathomable rate, the climate is changing before our very own eyes - big change is on the way.

The world is heading for chaos and I now think the big priority for us is battening down the hatches, we need to start investing in combating what is on the way rather than think we can somehow stop it happening. First priority is to close the borders, the very last thing the UK needs is more people.

Sunak is supported by Braverman in backing away from environmental protection.

I wonder if he thinks it will win him votes in the approaching election.
The election may be approaching faster than is expected, unless this is (more likely) some tory spoiling/disinformation tactic. Either way people will vote on the economy stupid.

Blup

They're using the result of the Uxbridge by-election as a signpost towards getting re-elected next year.
A dangerous tactic. Unless they imagine the Red Wall has given up their position on migrants.
Judging some of the comments on here, they haven't.

That beacon of the eu Germany, has toned down its standards.

Are you indicating approval?

How does this compare with UK govt relaxing rules, to allow housebuilders to pollute rivers more?

I'm indicating that some on here would have you believe that the eu is all sunshine and light and Germany are at the forefront of that.
I am with you on the pollution of our waterways and was glad to see legislation from the eu that tempered the scoundrels. Not sure how you solve the problem, people not paying their water bills would be the answer but that's not going to happen.

And you think that Germany is making a wise move?

We know that new houses being built have to meet certain energy efficiency requirements.
I don't know how this would go down, but, say houses sold after a certin date were also required to meet certain energy efficiency requirments.
Whether 5 years hence, 10 years hence, and degree of energy efficiency are details to be considered.

In some parts of the world cars are only required to be 'MOTd' at change of ownership. Other places a very recent MOT is required for change of ownership. Why not apply a similar concept to houses, on change of ownership. Who pays and whether grants are available are details to be considered.

Irrelevant what I think or you think as we have no way of changing policy via the ballot box John.

So why did you make your meaningless comment, which you now say is irrelevant?
Is it not obvious? Words like eu sunshine and light give it away for me, you, doesn't seem like it's landed.

Is that gantish?

There is more sunshine in many parts of the EU.
