Old folk don't remember the tory 3-day week!

Looks like Sir Kier should get Notch and Carmen in his cabinet - they will come with their book of excuses of why he wouldn’t/shouldn't/couldn't do anything, despite his claim that he has all the answers.
What excuses?

I just don't want more of the same from this lot? The country can't afford it

You could persuade me how good they are, rather than just saying Labour are worse, when there is nothing to support that

At least when he's in power, he'll right those wrongs. He will right those wrong, won't he?
you really are desperate

instead of admitting the last 14 years has been abject failure, your central argument is: "Labour wont be any better"

Mottie doesnt want to talk about how bad the Conservatives are, which is why he is desperately trying to deflect

highly unlikely

if you look at the most advanced Western economies with higher standards of living and much more even wealth distribution, they all have more advanced democracies based on some form of PR

if Labour were able to change or parliamentary system + break the dominance of the right wing media, then we will move forward. Otherwise we are stuck having to put up with uninformed voters being persuaded to vote against their interests

on a narrower level, yes Labour will make improvements around the edges -but more structural change is needed

The UK national debt is the total amount of money the British government owes to the private sector and other purchasers of UK gilts (e.g. Bank of England). This is the highest level of public sector debt since 1961.21 Jan 2024
So austerity or taxation increases? Seems there is a tax surplus at the moment. What will Hunt do with it? We all know the Tory mantra and getting elected on the basis of a tax increase is likely to be more than tricky. Changing the income tax break points and calculations would have similar problems as some would pay more. Other countries use different systems.

Mrs T and neoliberalism / Reaganomics. The world changes and profit becomes the god forgetting jobs. Needed for companies to remain competitive, Many just cleared off. What remained, many just eventually folded or became a shadow of what they were. Some eventually get bought up by larger multinational etc.

The IMF have suggestions on what we need to do
Tax cuts in certain areas. Pension reform - probably allowing funds to invest in riskier areas plus this

To support these reforms, future budgets should accommodate critical public investments as well as the level of recurrent spending needed to maintain high-quality public services (especially health, social care, and education). Meeting these needs while ensuring that debt stabilizes in relation to gross domestic product will require savings from additional tax and spending measures. In this context, our report highlights options to strengthen carbon, property, and wealth taxation; to close loopholes in the income and social-security tax systems; and to reform pensions.

;) Good f'ing luck to all of you.

I agree, but it’s unfair trying to use it as a stick to beat Keir Starmer with.
He's showing few signs of being different to the tories on important issues, especially with his iron lady chancellor in waiting. The new bliar/brown combo.

I’ll take that as a ‘no’ then. Kier won’t sort out the problems with the nurses doctors ambulance driver train staff teachers…..

That Iron Lady is going to knife him in the back at the first opportunity.

How about you telling us why Labour are better?

I've never claimed they are.

We just can't afford more of the same.

Back to you. You want to kep what we've got. Why? Because labour are worse? How is that? Or you think what we have is great and don't want it to change

That Iron Lady is going to knife him in the back at the first opportunity.
Can't see Labour being more than a one term government at most, so she will have to be prepared to move early. She is young though.

Whenever labour get in after they get voted out the tories are usually in power for far longer afterwards as the electorate think ah well we gave labour a chance but they are still shyte
