There are probably half a dozen criminal acts committed, if a doctor does not adhere strictly to the terms of the Abortion Act. Doubtful whether prosecutors would attempt to try them all. He'd probably be struck off on ethical grounds etc.
Their role in approving abortions is distinct, explicit and important.

And if they form the opinion that the criteria aren't met, in good faith, then they can't sign the form. Then what?

Where does the abortion act mention witness? Or are you just construing the meaning of something from the Act? How strange...
Maybe read NHS what happens. 52% of abortions are done at home which limits the period to 10 weeks.

MBK deliberately avoids that particular question. I wonder why...
I just think some need to consider all aspects rather than odd facts picked up from the web which is what some one posting did early on. Messy - not really. Later term abortions are effectively an artificial birth. They can't easily be related to premature births at the same gestation period. Sure 23weeks and 6days needn't be cast in stone. Some reduction could be possible without interfering with the reasons for a longer term than some countries use. However there will be reasons why the current time period was set. The women's nhs leaflet I posted very probably takes a very positive view for women that find themselves in this situation.
What happens in practice though. Pressure groups and politicians get involved and the web doesn't help. It just adds to the confusion.

Every time you say that again i hear the Thompson Twins singing it...
Or even if they feel they can't act in good faith - no sign off - abortion not authorised. The woman would then need to find two other honest doctors and get their approval.

What do you mean dishonest? Why would they be dishonest just because they are unable to give an opinion in good faith.
