If this comes to pass, I think it's one of those whereby if they want to access an individuals data, they need to apply to the court i.e. not just proceed without any checks and balances.

UK children's charity the NSPCC has previously described encryption as being on the front line of child abuse because it enables abusers to share hidden content.

But Apple says that privacy for its customers is at the heart of all its products and services.

Surveillance state.
At 1st thought it does seem like that

But do you think terrorists should be able to discuss plans without any state spying or intelligence gathering?

It's about the checks and balances involved, not the whether it can be done or not.

I like to sleep safe at night because the state is doing its best to keep us safe.

Yes there are drawbacks, but there are nasty people about

If the UK Government only wish to order Apple to hand over suspected child abusers encrypted data, only the sickos would argue against that.

Is that really what is going on here though?

I was under the impression intelligence agencies already have sanctioned access to spy on suspected terrorists anyway. I could be wrong of course.

I honestly don't know.

And the reports say that once the ability to decrypt is enabled, bad actors will eventually find a way in.

This is definitely an issue where I am in two minds.

And the issue with this apple system is that it's more secure.

It makes some sense that access should be available under correct circumstances.

We should be discussing what the circumstances are, not whether it should be allowed or not
