Plastic item tacked onto timber window frames ?

Could anyone tell me please what these plastic items are for that are tacked onto all of our timber window frames and also if it is detrimental if I remove them when re-painting the windows ? They have a slight slope on them towards the outside of the window as if they are supposed to lift the windows slightly when they are being closed. Thanks in advance for any help and/ot advice.

That's exactly what they're for, it's a timber window version of a 'run up block' often seen on uPVC windows, their purpose is to guide the opener into when closing but to do that they rub which is a horrible feeling when opening and closing hence why I mostly unclip them(uPVC) and put them in my parts bin, your choice on yours
