Up until a couple of years back, if I saw a spider in the house, 9 times out of 10 it was goodbye spider. These days, I feel more comfortable catching them in a glass and throwing them outside (yeah yeah and they probably come straight back in!) Or sometimes I just leave them be.

So, are you a spider killer or do you take the more humane approach?

Get them in a glass and my wife makes me take them to the end of the drive.

Catch them and throw them out.
The only thing I kill intentionally is house flies, they are the big game on my local safari.

Likewise, catch live and release outdoors. Mind you, I have to be quick - the cats tend to get there before I do judging from the number of flattened dead ones I discover

We no longer kill them, instead we name them and say hello to them when we go in that room.

The downstairs loo is currently inhabited by George, he has lived there for several years.

:) :)

When we were kids, we had a big spider that appeared regularly in the lounge that my Mum named Septimus. He seemed to be around for several years. Not sure how long they live for.

There was a big meat fly buzzing around in the window the other day that I was just about to get up and release out the window. Before I could, my tabby jumped up onto the windowsill and quick as a flash jumped up at it. Then no more buzzing. Hope it was a tasty morsel.

I put ‘em outside without killing them.

House spiders get to stay.

I’m not to keen on false widows, they’ve become super common in my house

I used to catch them and put them in my hair to impress the girls (no wonder I never had a girl friend until I was 18)

these days, the big juicy ones get left on the bird table, and mrs blackbird is quick!

shoot them down with elastic bands - rarely hit them on the move, but when they settle on something take aim and shoot

As it says in the good book*: 'Thou shalt not suffer a spider to live'.
I have a deal ongoing with my arachnid colony. They stay in the garden - but if any one of 'em scurries inside the house their life is forfeit. No exceptions. No mercy. This house is a war zone come September when the randy buggr's creep indoors for a bit of nookie. Some of the big black loft dwellers can grow to a mahoosive size, bigger than my hand. One of 'em even had the temerity to lurk at the bottom of the toilet bowl! No idea how it got in there. I pee'd on it then flushed it away.

I'm afraid I'm someone who despises small scurrying things.
I may attempt to catch a spider, but my instinct is to just get rid of it.
If there is a chance that it will hide, in the time it takes me to find a method to remove it, it will likely get squished :(

Fortunately, since I've rid my house of rats and mice - similarly despised scurrying things - I have blocked off all openings on the house, have fitted 1mm mesh to vents and fitted roller fly screens to all the opening windows.
I now very rarely find spiders in the house at all and long may it remain!
