Ive recently been painting our skirting boards and door frames with satinwood, and I'm now noticing the 6 panel doors which are 10 years old could do with a touch up,can these be painted? It doesn't look like I can sand them much.

I'm also wondering if I can repair the hole in one of the doors with filler.

Any advice

Rub with meths and if any paint comes off then it's waterbased paint.
Yeah you can paint them. Just need to know what paint is on.

Yeah you can fill but you need to get artistic.
Masking around hole.
2 pack wood filler.
Block of wood on 120grade sandpaper as that's flat.
Sand
Run something along to scratch the wood grain. Won't be perfect though.

I've given it a few rub downs with meth spirit, I think it is coming off, it won't get rid of that pesky stain that we have no idea where it came from, but you can see the underneath starting to show.

I'm not sure to me the surface looks shiny plastic ‍?? Are these premdoor doors?

If I can get away with filling and sanding I'll add a few faint lines, we can always put it in the office room which the doors always open so you wouldn't see it.

2nd pic already had the paint missing but it's starting to thin after a rub down.

Just gave it another go with cotton wool and meth spirit.

Is it a case of lightly sanding and can I just use dulux satinwood, same as the skirting boards?

They look like the fake woodgrain type
I'm not keen

Are they 33mm thick, and hollow?.

Yes there 33mm house is 10 years old.

Yes honeycomb insides

That's why I was wondering with painting it as its like a shiny plastic coat

Make 4 legs and screw to door ends.
Paint one side of door with mini roller then flip over and paint the other side.

Sorry I don't understand, no idea what you mean?

I've seen people resting them on a sawhorse, but I've only got a bench

Fill hole with filler and before completely set run a brush across the surface to match timber effect .
Thank you I've got no saw horses but I can use my work bench and power rack to hold.

I'm still wondering if I need to sand with it being woodgrain effect I won't be able to reach all the areas without loosing the woodgrain effect, and should I prime overthinking it as usual

Those doors are normally sold pre-primed (rather than finished).

Just give it a light sand with 180 grit paper.

The hole- I would use a lightweight filler such as Red Devil OneTime. 2 pack filler is great stuff but your doors are pressed hardboard. If you try sanding 2 pack, there is a risk of losing the fake grain effect around the filler. OneTime is very soft. You will be able to fudge a grain effect in the filler.

Before filling, I would use a suitable sized sanding block over the hole. The impact may have raised the edges of the hole slightly.

If the hole is the result of the door hitting another door handle or similar, any filler will eventually fail.

BTW, if you do use OneTime, prime it with waterbased primer/undercoat. Be advised that the filler, at that depth will take a couple of days to dry. You might be better off filling it in two hits. Conversely, 2 pack filler sets faster the deeper the hole.
