Reliable security lights?

Well for what it's worth, I know of a number of 500W halogen PIR floods which are decades old and many of them are still on their original linear bulb...

And some people are still trying to convince me LED is more reliable and cheaper.

Doing it that was still leaves me with the question of which lights to fit alongside an external PIT?
For the PIRs, the Eterna ones are decent, https://www.eterna-lighting.co.uk/product/pir180bk/
that is the black 180 degree version but also available in 110 degree and white.

As for the lights - it's anyone's guess now.
Higher priced ones claimed to last for years have filled up with water in a few months (Ledvance rubbish which will never be installed anywhere ever again) and on the other hand cheapo affairs such as V-Tac have been in for years with no problems at all.

I know some Thorn halogen floods that are still in service, working fine, fed with MICC. They have been downgraded from 500 to 150W lamps..

As for the Eterna180 passive, I got the equivalent Eternal model from Denmans in 1999 for our porch light. It's just a coach lantern. Originally, it had a 60W lamp, now it has a 12W LED. But it's still going strong, all these years later.

Looking on Denmans website tonight, they are £22 + the dreaded (not including any discount).

I think I paid about £8 for mine.

I can only go based on my experience. This lot soon naffed off when they got lit up……without cameras and lights there would have been another court case for a householder seriously injuring a burglar. Safer for all parties I feel.
That one in the middle looks like a badger!

I meant to add that I agree that lighting the place up like Wembley Stadium works a treat. When everywhere else is in darkness and suddenly, one small area is floodlight, they soon fork off!

It’s a minefield isn’t it,

GJD lighting system not cheap but last years connect what ever type of light you want fitted it at last house and moved it to this house over 20 years old still working and sensors been available since they came out in the eighties

I never calls then Security Lights. I call the Courtesy Lights, to help you and yours in and out of the house then fine.
As a deterrent they do seem to have some repellent effect - usually.
However, in a place not easily viewed to many of the public they can actually be a help not a repellent. You run the risk of arriving home to the scene of the visit and Sykes has left you a note "Thanks for providing me with enough illumination for me and I did not need to use my handy torch!"

As with all things in life we should consider the nature of unintended consequences.

Separate PIR sensor(s) and lights.
Then you can have the sensors in the optimal locations for those, which is rarely where the lights are.

I agree with the above.

In addition, use one or more PAR 38 LED Globes on a "Weatherproof" Swivel Holder.
(PAR 38 LED Globes are relatively cheap and easily replaced.)

Unfortunately (in my experience) the best holders of this type can be obtained only from North America -
(Such as
https://www.amazon.com/Hubbell-Raco...efix=e27+external+lamp+holder,aps,300&sr=8-35
or similar.)

Note that the North American Color Code is
Black for the Line (which goes to the Centre terminal of the E26/E27 fitting)
and
White for the Neutral
(Good luck if you can find appropriate fittings in the UK. and let me know!)

An installation using a PIR Sensor and a PAR 38 LED globe in such a (US) "Weatherproof" swivel holder
- on either side of a CCTV Camera -
is shown below.
