To all those that welcome/encourage the small boat migrants.

The last government tried to build detention facilities, but I think there was a lot of pushback from the residents, councillors and MPs in the proposed areas. That is before the cost is looked at. It might be easier said than done to accommodate 50,000 people in that way.

Have a think about that 50,000 number.

I would be happy to give pushback a try. But I think a major problem might be the opposition from the France and the rest of the EU. It is very different to push boats back into the open sea, like Greece does, than it is to push them back into another country's waters. It would certainly be interesting to see what happens. Obviously, as long as nobody is put in danger.

I thought the aim was to prevent them coming here.
None of you 'I just want to be seen as a nice person' lot have a proper grasp of that yet.

Nail on the head, I want to sound like a nice person,, stuff that for a game of soldiers. I want a prime minister that is willing to stand up and be counted and apply an imigration policy that does not make the UK an atractive proposition to them. Stop these free hand outs in order to look as though we are a caring nation. If we was that caring we wouldn't be in the position that we are now.

Detention camps, army barracks, tents on disused airfields. Not 4 star hotels where they get to use the kitchen facilities to cook and deliver that food up on a 'just eat' bike.
Yep. For the ones who do step out of line a crack round the skull with a truncheon, or a smack in the teeth with a riot shield should do the trick. Word will soon get round that they are treated exactly the same as the natives.

I remember a Reform spokesperson coming unstuck when they were asked where the boat people would be accommodated. What is their current proposal. Also, are they still proposing to fly them all to Ascension Island for processing.

We could all wear t shirts with "Save Police time and beat yourself up" Printed on them, that'l show em that we are not a soft nation.

Correct, stopping the boats should be a priority, not wondering how to deal with them once here.

Offshore processing and more safe routes.

When they know what awaits them then there will be no boats. Don't worry about jailing genuine asylum seekers as they will be processed very quickly as they will have proof of ID that won't be at the bottom of the English channel.

That's one view.

It wont do anything, if they are granted assylum they would have to pay tax on their Uber earnings and live on a council estate or sign on the dole, etc, etc. They want to come here and live in a hotel, get money from the government to do nothing and work on the black market

Until two or three years ago, we used to process them and grant asylum to most. They could then work legally and stop being a burden on the state. The current system, where they are held indefinitely in hotels, was supposed to be a deterrent. But now people are claiming that it is actually an incentive to come here. It is all very confusing!
