Working asylum seekers

I think it’s Labour that are panicking. They're running around like headless chickens.
Nonsense. Cool as a cucumber this lot. A year in power and ground breaking deals achieved in Europe and across the globe.

Same applies to most cyclists , no insurance .
There's a difference if the people are employed. Vicarious liability. Employers liability insurance should cover it.

There is a legal requirement on any employer to ensure that someone is permitted to work here with respect to visas etc. The max fine for not doing so was recently increased from 20k to 60k, per employee for repeat offenders. A reminder from plod through the appropriate channels should temper the practice.

Why should we is a better question. Do you have shares in a tech company pushing it ?
Dunno mate, I might. But that's not the motive.

Use of ID would hinder a lot of immigration and other crimes, and save the police loads of time, eg when drug crazed drivers are stopped and won't say. At borders it usually takes much less than a minute.

I appreciate it's big-brother-ish but why would anyone want to hide their identity, if asked by someone in authority?

I support having GPS-location chips in cars too. Most (posher, at least) already have them. Police currently need a warrant to use them even if the car is stolen, so they don't, which is pretty dumb imho.

I don't think "why should we" really is a better question - that is answered by the majority of countries in Europe, say, already benefitting from them.

I thought they were using some sort of motor vehicle. Bikes might be different. What about other insurances which go with work.

UK business confidence hits decade high as optimism grows

UK business confidence has reached its highest level since 2015, rising one point to 52% in July, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Business Barometer. This marks the third consecutive monthly increase, fuelled by improving trading prospects and growing economic optimism.

The latest data reveals:

  • Business confidence rose to 52%, a 10-year high.
  • Economic optimism reached an 11-month high at 47%, up two points.
  • Hiring intentions surged, with 60% of firms planning to recruit in the next year.
  • Price expectations remained elevated but steady, with a net 61% of businesses expecting to raise prices.
  • Services sector confidence soared by 11 points to 61%, leading all sectors.

please can somebody send Motorbiking a giant hanky to wipe away his giant salty tears
on target

The IoD Directors’ Economic Confidence Index, which measures business leader optimism in prospects for the UK economy, fell to -72 in July 2025 from -53 in June.
This exceeds the previous record low of -69 in April 2020 and marks the lowest reading of the Index since its introduction in July 2016.

The latest national Business Confidence Monitor (BCM) for Q2 2025 shows that business confidence fell further into negative territory, reflecting ongoing concerns about the tax burden and slower expected domestic and exports sales growth.

Oh dear Poor NotchyFacts™. wrong as usual.
